Why is our society so fractured and angry? David Brooks’ recent article draws from the work of moral philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre to explain how we got here, but what is the solution? With the growth of A.I., some Christians think technology may be how God redeems humanity and gives us eternal life. But is this still Christianity or a strange new Silicon Valley heresy? Kaitlyn talks to Daniel Lee Hill about his latest book, “Bearing Witness: What the Church Can Learn from Early Abolitionists.” Also this week—dolphins learn to puff the magic fish.

Doesn’t the bible describe early humans living hundreds of years with the oldest person in the bible referenced lived to be 969 years old? And would rather the limits of science to extend life be within God’s foresight and thus if we are able to extend life by thousands of years would not not just be returning humans to their intended lifespans before the effects of sin took hold? I think our theology needs to be descriptive not prescriptive. The limits of what is good or permissible to God’s creation is not limited to our current scientific views and understandings that meat expand as we learn more about God’s creation .
Regarding transhumanism, and many of the related issues here, I recommend C.S. Lewis’ The Abolition of Man. (Also —While I would not throw away the things we have learned from experiments, I think we’ve crossed some terrible moral lines in the process just on the mistreatment of animals level, going back centuries, as a side note.)
In terms of improvement since the mid-1960s, I would definitely add LGBTQ rights. If you look at how we were treated back then compared to now, it’s infinitely better here in the west, thank God.
The unquestioned assumption that there was something wrong or bad, or a sign of the Fall, about the dolphins using the puffer fish to get high (and other animals mentioned who get inebriated by eating various things) seems very strange to me. It’s not like drinking alcohol, or even using pot, as I understand it, are sins, at least in moderation; to me this seems like a parallel to that, not like getting addicted to cocaine or meth or the like.
