LA Fires, Climate Change, and Christian Responsibility

Updated: Jan 24

When disaster strikes, what should Christians do? Esau sits down with Jamie Aten, a disaster relief expert, and the Blanchard Chair of Humanitarian and Disaster Leadership at Wheaton College. They talk about the devastating wildfires in California, how climate change and policy decisions are making disasters worse, and why churches play a crucial role in relief efforts.

I just want to say thank you for discussing the Southern California wildfires with compassion and curiosity. The last three weeks have been so difficult for so many of us who live in this region and it hurts to tune into a podcast or open up a website and find nothing but attempts to assign blame, usually from people who understand zero about California climate or topography or water infrastructure or firefighting skills. Even worse are all the "lighthearted" comments poking fun at California and Californians. Thank you, Jamie, for explaining how this devastation was very much a natural disaster and for discussing the best ways to help.

Lost Keys theory: Because Esau has been pretty rough on Mike, for retribution Mike planted the keys in Esau’s pocket. Is Mike that vengeful?

RE: Esau McCaulley and the lost keys HOIT TAKE. I submit Deut 22:1-2 (although either side could probably site this as justification for their position). But I suggest Esau should go the extra mile and reimburse Mike for the Uber expense. 😊
