Episode 450: The Evangelical Industrial Complex with Love Thy Neighborhood

Have you wondered why so many megachurch leaders have been embroiled in scandals, or why there are so many Christian celebrities today? It’s not accidental. It’s the predictable outcome of the systems behind much of popular consumer Christianity.

In this special episode co-produced with the Love Thy Neighborhood podcast, Jesse Eubanks joins Skye to explore the way business interests and economics have replaced Christian values to drive many parts of American evangelicalism. Featuring multiple interviews, investigative reporting, and commentary, this episode will pull back the curtain on the evangelical industrial complex.

The sin of the people of Babel was revealed when they declared their true intentions for building a tower, "so that we may make a name for ourselves"

Over and over again we see Babylonian examples in the institutional church .

The evidence here seems a bit thin.

One radio producer and one lady that went to Hillsong NYC. One pastor who got a little too into social media. It's not exactly a slam dunk.

It seemed cheap to me to include the lady from Hillsong saying how she is now ex-vangelical and deconstructing. I'm not trying to defend Hillsong. Maybe like 50000 in the US.I'm sure lots of people would say they've been helped by go Hillsong. Obviously people go to Hillsong for a reason. Is that one person supposed to represent people who go to every mega Chur…

Evangelical celebrity culture is bad: This message brought to you by Phil Vischer the creator of Veggie Tales.

For a funny guy you seem to have an underdeveloped sense of irony.

I’m currently an intern with Love Thy Neighborhood! It’s weird to see Jesse’s face up in here 😂.

Skye, I would love you forever if you came and spoke to us sometime.
