Episode 418: The Pandemic, Power, & the Apocalypse

Updated: Aug 21, 2020

Back in 2016, Donald Trump gave a campaign speech promising that if elected “Christianity will have power.” The Holy Post crew discusses why this message has so much appeal to some Christians today, the way fear has come to mark our faith, and what we can do to counteract the trend.

After the podcast is interrupted by a tornado, Christian asks if we’re seeing signs of the apocalypse. Skye says, “No” and shares his idea for a sermon titled “How Stupid Do We Think God Is?” Plus, listener mail.

I'm always playing catch up with the podcasts. I feel that Skye missed a huge aspect of the difference between 9-11 (today is the anniversary, which was strange) and now. Social media. Facebook launched in 2004, and DSL wasn't until 2007. Not to mention smart phone usage, which was even later. Absolutely, there's a massive difference in how the information was processed by the general public.

A mark in the forehead or the hand is either by willing choice to be and follow deception or by “force” -…

Hello! This isn’t about the podcast specifically, but since I’m not actively on Twitter, I couldn’t figure out another way to reach Phil or Skye. I just wanted to know if the Holy Post team had seen the video put out yesterday about an (apparently) fundamentalist church in California that was forced to shut down even though they were following social distancing procedures. At first, it looks like a typical Christians-Behaving-Badly segment, but there seems to be a lot more here that’s worth noting. While I do not agree with a few of the lead pastor’s practices, I found his humble, submissive, winsome attitude refreshing, especially in light of the seeming double standard that the church has been held to…
