I was disappointed with the discussion around Derek Rishmawy's tweet (the last segment of the podcast). It seems to me that the main point was was calling out the automatic defensiveness some parents demonstrate when their idol of youth sports is called into question. A more robust discussion could have been about identifying idols in our lives and how we can idolize what is good over the Giver of the good gift. Derek is also 100% Presbyterian and I suspect views the Sunday gathering for corporate worship and Communion as an important moment for the covenant community of the local church, not simply as an opportunity for a pastor to get lots of attention through a sermon-centered, business corporation-vibe event.…
Peter Thiel is really kind of horrible, and I'm genuinely surprised (other than his connection to Vance) that this wasn't mentioned.
