707: Halftime Hullabaloo and Tyler Johnson

The big game was on Sunday, and for most of the country, it was a big letdown unless you’re heavily invested in the culture war. Phil, Kaitlyn, and Skye start by breaking down Bad Bunny’s halftime show (en español) and Turning Point USA’s alternative with Kid Rock. Then they discuss how Jesus became such a big part of football culture. Is it good that so many players start their media interviews with a shout-out to their Lord and Savior, or has it become a distracting cliche? Skye talks to Tyler Johnson, the Chief Impact Officer for He Gets Us to Come Near, about how their Super Bowl ad this year still hopes to point people to Jesus but with less controversy. Also, this week, Bonnie Kristian says everyone is too obsessed with gender.

This is for Phil… I am a retired scientist, and I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior for inspiring my work in developing vaccines.

I second soup's comment, and I would add representation by LGBTQ people in general. I think there has been one or two gay people total in all the time the show has been on (I believe one was a bishop from my own Episcopal Church, years and years ago, and one was one of the atheists who has visited--and I'm not even sure about that one). And there is a spectrum of views within the Christian LGBTQ community on sex and sexuality. If you are seeking LGBTQ guests who are (1) Christian and (2) have traditional views on sexual intercourse, I strongly recommend Revoice, as I have many times before. I get the sense that HP doesn't realize that…

In your discussion of Christianity and athletes, I didn't hear mention of the revival happening among college teams, the most famous example being The Ohio State Buckeyes. Do a search for that phrase and watch (Baylor has exciting news on that front as well)! Athletes are coming to Christ in some pretty spectacular ways. I just think that is an important addition given the focus was on " Christian signaling" and other theories explored by the hosts. BTW, this is not a criticism, just an addition. :) PS I have never commented here before, so why I am at it, I would love to see a Christian mental health professional be a regular part of your team. Being glad about the Bad Bunny halftime show is being "invested in the culture war"? Seriously?

I am once again begging the Holy Post to have an actual trans person on this podcast to talk about gender, because the total lacking in understanding of that experience is more glaring every time it happens.
