So after this episode I went looking at the Obama website. I didn't wind up with the impression the podcast gave me of it. The HP crew are much closer to it than I am, but I get the impression that it probably makes (or is intended to make) a different impression in person than pictures on the internet. One thing is that it really seems to be about the whole complex, with recreational facilities and basketball courts and all, not just the tall library building. I liked how the episode encouraged looking at the whole message of Scripture instead of relying on isolated verses to shape political views. It gave me a more thoughtful perspective on the relationship between faith and public life.
Genuine question: Were/are Christians upset when LBJ built his giant brutalist building here in Austin, TX? I'm guessing no one cared unless, as the consensus seems to be with all of us, they just weren't fans of this architecture style.
