724: The Problem with Pagan Masculinity with Zach Wagner

While secular journalists, scholars, and even the Pope are wrestling with big questions about Artificial Intelligence, the war in the Middle East, and what it means to be truly human, the Southern Baptists have decided the most urgent problem in 2026 is banning women from preaching. Phil asks why evangelicals are still fixated on issues from 50 years ago, while other Christian traditions are leading the culture in tackling modern questions. Zachary Wagner, author of “Men of Virtue,” joins Skye and Kaitlyn for a roundup of masculine news. Wagner says the excesses of some expressions of feminism have fueled a subculture of male grievance, and that a pagan vision of masculinity is now masquerading as Christian throughout the manosphere. Also this week, nuns are challenging the tech giants, and Google wants permission to “debug” Florida.

Americans - We have a language school and Spanish worship at my church. My Latino friends regularly correct me when I use the term Americans to describe native English speakers. "Pastor Adam" they say "We are Americans too...South Americans". They have a word for people like me. (Ok they have many words but let's keep it clean and technical) that word is estadounidense which would translate literally as unitedstatesian. If you use AI to translate English into Latin American Spanish it will render "The Americans" as "los estadounidenses". I really, really wish you'd stop using the word "pagan" to merely mean "non-Christian" or "non-Judeo-Christian" or the like. The actual pagans of various kinds I have known (who are also being newly mistreated--Hegseth just eliminated all but a few religions as recognized by the military, and Wiccans, Asatru, and many others were on the chopping block) have been nothing like this, and if anything are quite the opposite, and have generally been quite nice people. When most people say "pagan," they mean "polytheist," and Skye of all people should know that "polytheist" is more than just "non-Christian."
