643: How Trump Won the Election with David French

It’s been a week since the election and why Americans voted to send Donald Trump back to the White House is beginning to come into focus. The entire Holy Post team—Phil, Skye, Kaitlyn, and Esau—is here to talk about why Trump won and how Harris lost. Was it the economy? Was it racism and misogyny? Was it identity politics or disinformation in the media? Everyone has a theory. Then New York Times columnist and Holy Post regular, David French, is back to give his take on the election. He explains why Kamala Harris’s decision to focus on abortion backfired, and why January 6 did not disqualify Trump for most Americans.

I'm disappointed in your analysis here. January 6th was a single despicable event, handled shamefully by Trump. But in terms of democratic norms, it was the Democrats and their allies in government who used the known falsehoods of the Steele dossier to undermine trump's first term; the intelligence people who lied about the hunter Biden laptop and got it censored; Biden who defied the Supreme Court for student debt forgiveness; the Democrats pushing to pack the court and kill the fillibuster; Democrats who lied about Biden's mental decline and hindered primary challenges, then elevated Harris with no input from the public. All while the majority of the media, who should be the watchdogs, downplayed these stories. The notion that Democrat…

First, shout out to Global Refuge! Second, Skye, Skye, Skye (44min)... Rule-of-Thumb: When Trump says he'll do something, believe him. Half of how he won is people dismissed things he said. How's this deportation thing going to happen? What has Trump said? 1) He's going to deport over 20M people. That number has progressively gone up over time, but is consistently over 20M now. 2) He believes every immigrant who came here under Biden came illegally and that any legal status they were given was given illegally. He's going to use his power to deem all those actions illegitimate.

3) He going to take away birth-right citizenship. Don't know how, but he'll do it. He'll do it long enough to create chaos before the…

This podcast, especially discussion with the assembled Phil, Skye, Kaitlyn, and Esau, was immensely valuable to me. Appreciate the elucidating discussion by the panel members surrounding the outcome of November 5. I am doubling down on reflecting Jesus and ministering to hyper-local communities in the next four years. Glad that the Holy Post team members are with me in that endeavor.

You made some excellent points about the election, and I agree that Trump should never have been allowed to run after Jan. 6th, but attributing Trump's win to low-information voters misses one very important factor. Many intelligent and informed conservative thinkers who dislike Trump felt he was the victim of "lawfare"; that his 1st impeachment was based on faulty information and that he was targeted for prosecution in cases where others wouldn't have been. This belief is held by editors of the National Review and members of the Hoover Institution. Even Fareed Zakaria has said he believes this; and as a commentator on CNN he tries very hard to maintain journalistic neutrality. A lot of voters saw this lawfare …
